When Walt Disney Co., Warner Bros., and Six Flags Magic Mountain were in search for a dynamic, versatile and entertaining hypnotist for their corporate functions and theme park attractions, they ultimately sought out Kevin Stone. Pam Bugbee, of Six Flags Magic Mountain, stated “Not only is his show wonderful, we found him to be affable and very professional.” Dennis Condon, of Walt Disney Co. said “Kevin Stone and his show is a definite crowd pleaser for old and young alike. Great family entertainment!” Additionally, Los Angeles’s premier radio station 97.1 KLSX, after an extensive search for a hypnotist to hypnotize an all celebrity guest panel for a special broadcast, chose Kevin Stone as “THE BEST.” In fact, one of the celebrities, Jessica Hahn, stated, “I have tried before to be hypnotized by others, and I always thought it was fake, that it could not be done! But now that I have been hypnotized by Kevin Stone, I now know that it is real!!”

Kevin Stone’s passion for hypnosis started in his early youth and grew steadily over the years. He decided to sell his successful business to pursue his lifelong dream, enrolling in the only accredited college of hypnosis, The Hypnosis Motivation Institute (HMI), where he studied under the world renowned Dr. John Kappas. Between his many show dates, Kevin Stone is widely sought after for his expertise in hypnotherapy as well as his impressive teaching skills. For example, he has volunteered his time in the capacity of “Senior Clinical Instructor,” at the Craniofacial Pain/TMJ Clinic of the Otolaryngology Foundation at the White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

Entertainment Today has acknowledged that Kevin Stone is “creative, flexible, mesmerizing and very funny. He will, without a doubt, put a large spark into any event! He is a dynamic entertainer with truly innovative methods of hypnosis.” Kevin is adamant about not embarrassing any one of his volunteers. The Los Angeles Times wrote that “The Hollywood Hypnotist darts through the most unique and unforgettable audience participation program in existence, never once belittling any of his volunteers.”

  • What is it? Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy used to reprogram the subconscious mind. When under hypnosis, you put your mind and body into a heightened state of learning, making you more susceptible to suggestions for self-improvement or behavior modification. The goal is to put the subconscious and conscious mind in harmony, which in turn helps give you greater control over your behavior and emotions.

  • What is it not? Hypnotherapy is not like what you see in stage shows, where you’ll often see people barking like a dog or clucking like a chicken. There are no swinging pocket watches. In a hypnotherapy session, you are in control the whole time. You will hear the suggestions made to you, and you will be able to remember them after the session.

  • Work related anxiety/depression: According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, one-in-five Americans report anxiety. But hypnosis can help with this too. This reflects the incredible power hypnosis has over the mind. While it has been suggested that this is merely a placebo, as Melinda Beck writes, “clients’ expectation play a major role in how they feel.” While the science on this is in its early stages, it’s thought that the hypnosis benefits could help calm nerves and alleviate anxiety. Furthermore, there is also increasing research being done to examine the links between hypnosis alleviating depression.
  • To help make clearer decisions/Problem solving
  • Sleep: In many studies into hypnosis benefits, it has been suggested that participants who had undergone hypnosis reported that they had slept well. However, since then, the scientific research into the subject has advanced. Nowadays, research on hypnotherapy by scientists at the University of Zurich introduced monitoring of brain activity into the study. The tests were carried out on a group of young and healthy women. After listening to a hypnotic suggestion recording, the participants went to sleep for a period of 90-minutes. The results found that participants that were found to be receptive to hypnosis spent over 80 percent more time in a state of “slow-wave sleep” than if they listen to a non-hypnotic recording. The “slow-wave sleep” is the deepest stage of sleep that allows for the greatest restorative potential. The results of the study are of “major importance for patients with sleep problems,” according to the researchers. In addition, unlike other solutions to sleeping problems, such as drugs, hypnosis has no “adverse side effects.”
  • Bad habits
  • Ease chronic pain/pain management: Pain from working on your feet and working with your hands for hours on end. Even though much of the scientific research on hypnosis benefits is in the early phase, there is plenty of studies demonstrating the potential of the treatment to reduce and manage pain.

According to a meta-analysis of scientific journal articles published between 2000-2010, hypnosis has consistently been shown to reduce pain effectively. This relates to a variety of conditions, notably, cancer, arthritis, and fibromyalgia.

  • Calm nerves (have a high profile client? Have a trouble client? Have to handle a complaint?) Because of its ability to harness the powers of the mind, hypnosis is often employed to relieve anxieties related to other medical procedures, like surgery, scans or even giving birth, called state anxiety. "The mechanism may be similar to the placebo effect -- in which patients' expectations play a major role in how they feel," Melinda Beck wrote for the Wall Street Journal in 2012. "Hypnosis, in turn, can help patients adjust those expectations to minimize pain, fear and disability." More research is needed to determine if hypnosis might alleviate generalized anxiety disorder or what's called trait anxiety, or anxiety relating to personality rather than a specific event, according to a 2010 review of the research. Preliminary studies have started to examine hypnosis in depression treatment as well, but more research is needed.
  • Weight loss (food/exercise habits): Hypnosis can help people change their eating behaviours and drop the pounds. According to a Vanderbilt University review of the scientific literature, hypnosis works best for weight-loss when combined with a behavioural weight -management plan.
