The numerous effects of chemical stripping, bleaching, dyeing and curling for a finished product of hair extensions does not stop with swelling damage, loss of protective cuticles and oils or dryness.
Due to the molecular weight of the acids used to strip cuticles from the fiber, it is able to penetrate into the cortical (cortex) layer of the hair and cause severe damage to the disulfide bonds, like bleaching, thereby reducing the protein properties up to 50%. The chemical damage reflects the extent of the mechanical damage of up to 70% less strength and elasticity and up to 20% less moisture content.
In creating conditioners we have a goal of depositing conditioner from the “conditioner solution” on to the hair in a rinse off product. When applying the product on the hair, there is a competition between the hair’s surface and the "solution” for the conditioners inside the “solution”. We need these conditioners to be forced out of the “solution” into the hair by the action of water during rinsing. This is where the surface energy of the hair must interact with the surface tension of the conditioner.
Previously, we stated that the surface energy of the hair fiber changed when it was chemically altered. First, we established the differences in ionic charge from regular hair to cut and non-cuticle hair, then; we formulated a conditioner solution that will be highly attracted to the surface. All conditioners must be based on cationic conditioners (polymers) because they are highly attracted to the anionic surface and will adhere to the hair. The challenge was to formulate and test conditioners that are attracted to chemically processed cut hair and blend it with carriers that will disperse it on the hair’s surface. We formulated a daily conditioner that contains properties that are structured to match the ionic charge of cut and non-cuticle hair. The surface energy of this hair has been significantly altered from normal cuticle hair, which is why normal conditioners either slide off the fiber or bond too strongly creating build-up. Regular conditioner is made to interact with the surface of scalp hair. Ionix Daily Conditioner interacts with the under layer.
The Daily Conditioner contains properties that are structured to match the altered surface energy. The root ingredients are supplemented with well-defined natural oils and plant extracts to achieve optimum body, shine and softness.
