ionix - INTRODUCTION

Introducing “IONIX”; a hair care line designed, tested and documented for the care and maintenance of all types of cut hair, hair extensions and damaged scalp hair.

The first line of hair care products that have been expressly designed for the hair replacement and hair extension industry.

Our approach in designing the IONIX line was to study the hair fiber's basic relationship and how it interacts with cleaning and conditioning agents, with forethought to what the customer will do to the hair. Each product is uniquely structured to approach the problems and solutions of cut hair (hydrophobic, swelling, lubrication, strength, elasticity, moisture content/retention, protein retention, combing ease and aesthetics) and to extend the life and look of a new hair unit. IONIX is based on the word ions. Every surface has a measurement of energy and every liquid has a measurement of tension based on ions.

After the heavy chemical processes inflicted on the hair fibers to create manufactured hair are complete, the amount of energy (can be measured in our lab) has changed on the surface of the fiber.  Since the surface energy has changed, we need to change the products interaction, or surface tension, in order for the products to match this special type of hair. It can be the best hair product, but it will not work if it doesn’t match! The instrument that measures surface interaction is the Tensiometer. And no company can design a product for different hair types without the Tensiometer.

This must be a fairly precise equality or the product will either slide off without affecting the hair or bond too strongly creating build up.  The importance of the relationship between surface energy (hair) and the surface tension (shampoo and conditioners) is the amount of bonding between the two.

There is a significant difference between the physical appearance of scalp hair and cut hair. What is not immediately visible is that 1) the diameter of the original fiber has been reduced in approximately 25% because the protective cuticle layer has been chemically stripped and diffused (melted and scarred), 2) the chemicals used have penetrated into the cortical (cortex) layer of the hair and has damaged the disulfide bonds - which reduces the protein properties up to 25%, and 3) the extent of the mechanical damage: up to 30% less strength and elasticity and up to 20% less moisture content; resulting in hair that looks and feels like straw.

The cuticle layer is a hydrophobic wall (repels liquids and some chemicals) and when it is stripped and fused from the main fiber, the fiber becomes hydrophilic (absorbs liquids and chemicals) and it becomes extremely vulnerable to swelling. Swelling is one of the most damaging states for the fiber and often causes a chain reaction to other damages.

Swelling is a usual occurrence with hair when it interacts with water or other compounds. It can swell from 8% to 12% above normal values, but it usually contracts back to its original size without any damage. With non-cuticle hair in its current state of shock and damage, it can swell up to 100% from its original values and lack the ability to fully contract making permanent bond breakage to occur.

All this damage has happened before chemical bleaching, dyeing with boiling water and steam curling with high temperatures. Once the customer has the "finished product" in hand, the hair will now go through more damage caused by wet combing, heat drying, swelling from shampoos or other hair styling aids, chlorine, curling irons, semi-permanent colors, acidic or alkali based perms, etc. And Non-cuticle hair is like a hand without the skin that protects the inner tissue. Applying regular shampoos with their harsh detergents on cuticle stripped hair is much like rubbing salt onto abraded skin.

Each of the IONIX products has been structured to match the ionic energy of non-cuticle hair and severely damaged hair, which makes it perfect for maintaining hair extensions. But this is only the first characteristic of the products. We have also incorporated many other features that systematically approach each problem with a lab-tested solution.
